RATON, N.M. - After trading leads three times,
Taos (N.M.) snatched the lead for good when it scored a defensive touchdown in the third quarter, paving the way for victory over
Raton (N.M.) 28-21.
After taking the lead on a
Isaac Gonzales touchdown run, the Tigers went into halftime with a 14-7 lead. The Tigers scored the winning points with a defensive touchdown that came in the third quarter.
Taos was ahead by as much as 14 before Raton pulled closer.
Toby Henson played well for RHS. The junior quarterback threw one touchdown.
THS's most effective player was Gonzales. The junior running back ran for two touchdowns. He has now scored 11 touchdowns on the season.
The Tigers got revenge for last year's 41-31 loss to the Tigers with the victory.
The victory was a step in the right direction for Taos, which was coming off a 34-7 defeat at the hands of Socorro in its previous game.
Raton (0-7) goes up against Robertson in a 3A District 2 game matchup next week, while Taos (5-2) locks horns with West Las Vegas also in a 3A District 2 game.
