The McGavock Raiders will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the LaVergne Wolverines at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
McGavock is headed into the matchup having just suffered their biggest defeat since April 8, 2024 on Thursday. They came up short against Lawson, falling 19-8.
Montario Ostine made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole Three bases. while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Cody Calvin, who scored two runs and stole Two bases.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask LaVergne). They walked away with a 14-11 victory over Hillsboro on Friday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wolverines.
Dominic Townsend was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and only one walk). The dominant performance gave him a new career-low in earned runs. He was even better at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with five runs, three doubles, and two RBI. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in doubles.
In other batting news, Caleb Lund was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Jay Jerome also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
LaVergne always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .524. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
LaVergne pushed their record up to 3-2 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for McGavock, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.
McGavock couldn't quite get it done against LaVergne in their previous meeting last Wednesday as they fell 11-6. Will McGavock have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
