Softball Recap: Chiawana Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Chiawana, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They never let the Pasco Bulldogs get on the board and left with a 17-0 win on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Riverhawks, who have now won six games by eight runs or more so far this season.

Gabriella Garza made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, Chiawana got a massive performance out of Amelia Smith, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Jessica Melendez was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-3.

Chiawana was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .688. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Chiawana pushed their record up to 7-3 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Pasco, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

Coming up, Chiawana will face off against Southridge at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Riverhawks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Suns have averaged an impressive 9.4 runs per game this season. As for Pasco, they will take on Richland at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Bombers will roll in looking for their ninth straight victory, something the Bulldogs surely won't give up without a fight.
