The Deer Trail Eagles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They were the victim of a tough 49-29 loss at the hands of Lone Star. Deer Trail has not had much luck with Lone Star recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Deer Trail's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Ally Hardwick, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds, and Megan Donovan who scored ten points along with eight rebounds and seven blocks. Hardwick hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. Taylor Reis was another key contributor, scoring two points along with two steals.
Deer Trail struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Lone Star racked up 17 assists.
Lone Star's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jade Kuntz, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten assists. It was the first time this season that Kuntz posted eight or more assists. Another player making a difference was Aleighcea Kuntz, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and six steals.
Deer Trail's defeat dropped their record down to 5-11. As for Lone Star, their victory bumped their record up to 7-8.
Deer Trail won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Genoa-Hugo/Karval at 4:00 p.m. on February 9th. Genoa-Hugo/Karval is coming into the game with three straight defeats on the road, meaning Deer Trail will have to defend against a team hungry for a win. As for Lone Star, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Flagler at 4:00 p.m. Flagler is coming into the match with four straight wins on the road, so Lone Star is out to stop a team with plenty of momentum.
