The Oakhaven Hawks pushed their score all the way to 80 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were the victim of a rough 100-80 defeat at the hands of Hillcrest. While losing is never fun, Oakhaven can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 245th, while the Vikings are ranked 117th).
Oakhaven's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Jertavien Williams, who scored 28 points, and Amari Spates who scored 23 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Spates has scored all season. Ky'Sedreon Robinson was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Jordan Allen continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Hillcrest, shooting 5-for-8 from long range and dropping a double-double on 52 points and 11 assists. That makes it nine consecutive games in which Allen has scored at least a third of Hillcrest's points. Another player making a difference was Xavier Herron, who scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and seven steals.
Oakhaven's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-5. As for Hillcrest, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 18-5.
Oakhaven won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on January 31st. As for Hillcrest, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against the Longhorns at 7:30 p.m. Westwood knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matches -- so hopefully the Vikings like a good challenge.
