The East Surry Cardinals will head out on the road to face off against the Community School of Davidson Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only East Surry walked away with it. They really took it to Providence Grove for the full four quarters, racking up a 42-13 win at home. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as East Surry just coasted through the last quarter.
Will Jones and Lindan Fleming were among the main playmakers for East Surry as the former threw for 232 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 11.0 yards per attempt and the latter rushed for 143 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries. Fleming was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 65 yards. Stephen Keener also helped out with an impressive 85 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, Community School of Davidson came tearing into Friday's contest with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 40.2 points) and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victor by a 38-16 margin over Lexington. Given Community School of Davidson's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 94th, while Lexington is ranked 211th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Brandon Albert, who rushed for 117 yards and a touchdown, and also picked up 80 receiving yards and a touchdown. The team also got some help courtesy of Connor Ferguson, who threw for 197 yards and two touchdowns.
East Surry has yet to lose a contest at home this season, leaving them with a 8-3 record. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 42.2 points per game. As for Community School of Davidson, their victory bumped their record up to 10-1.
