Basketball Recap: Joel Danquah's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Friendly over Oxon Hill

Friendly lost against Oxon Hill back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Friendly Patriots lost to the Oxon Hill Clippers on the road by a 75-60 margin. While losing is never fun, the Patriots can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 243rd, while the Clippers are ranked 55th).

Friendly lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Joel Danquah, who went 7 for 12 en route to 17 points and six boards. That's the most points Danquah has posted since back in February of 2024. Jeremiah Roach was another key player, putting up ten points and seven assists.

Oxon Hill's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from William Johns, who posted 27 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Johns has scored at least a third of Oxon Hill's points. Another player making a difference was Nigel Harris, who scored 18 points.

Friendly's defeat was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-9. As for Oxon Hill, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-1.

Friendly will head out to square off against Chesapeake Math & IT Academy South at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Friendly is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.2 points per game this season. Oxon Hill has already played their next game, a 72-38 loss against City College on the 25th.
