Basketball Recap: Wiregrass Ranch Comes Up Short

Wiregrass Ranch was the 57-52 winner over Tampa Catholic when they last played one another back in December of 2017, but their luck changed this time around. The Wiregrass Ranch Bulls fell to the Tampa Catholic Crusaders 97-92. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Friday (68), the Bulls still had to take the loss.

Despite the loss, Wiregrass Ranch still got an impressive performance from Kj Smith, who went 8 of 14 from beyond the arc on his way to 41 points and five rebounds. Smith's afternoon made it 18 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Kyden Wiley, who went 6 for 13 en route to 12 points and seven boards.

Even though they lost, Wiregrass Ranch smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in five consecutive matchups.

Leading Tampa Catholic to victory were Isaiah Campbell-Finch and Willie Piggott. Campbell-Finch almost dropped a double-double on 32 points and nine rebounds, while Piggott dropped a double-double on 29 points and 14 boards. Campbell-Finch continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sohan Alla, who went 6 of 8 on his way to 14 points.

Wiregrass Ranch's loss dropped their record down to 13-6. As for Tampa Catholic, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a massive bump to their 12-8 record this season.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Berkeley Prep the next time they take the court. Wiregrass Ranch will host Berkeley Prep at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while Tampa Catholic will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
