With playoffs in most states upon us, this past weekend of high school football saw no shortage of insane statistical performances. We are highlighting some of those in the latest edition of Stat Freaks of the Week.
Cole Gilbert of
Turlock (Calif.) tops the list after pulling off football's "triple crown" – recording a passing, rushing and receiving touchdown during a postseason win Friday.
The senior actually threw for four touchdowns, ran for two more and caught another while accounting for 492 yards of offense.
Facing a 50-43 deficit with less than 2 minutes to play, Gilbert led his team 80 yards for a touchdown to cut the lead to 50-49. With under a minute remaining, Gilbert remained under center and converted his third two-point conversion of the game for a 51-50 win.
Abu Kamara of
Interboro (Prospect Park, Pa.) is another Stat Freak. Offensively the senior scored four rushing touchdowns, racking up 257 yards in the process. On defense, Kamara was a ball hawk, intercepting three passes and taking one in for a touchdown in the Buccaneers 38-14 playoff victory.
