The Overton Bobcats are taking a road trip to take on the Lawson Lightning at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Lawson will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Overton extended their winning streak to seven on Thursday. The Bobcats blew past Antioch 20-1. The match marked the Bobcats' most dominant win of the season.
Kaliyha Finley-Gray made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Overton got a massive performance out of Ella Meacham, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and one triple. Those three stolen bases gave Meacham a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Trista Norris, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two doubles.
Overton hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in 11 consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Lawson was not the first on the board on Thursday, but they got there more often. Everything went their way against Martin Luther King Jr. Magnet as they made off with a 22-8 victory. Winning may never get old, but the Lightning sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Makenzie Cotton was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Joi Stewart, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.
Overton pushed their record up to 10-4 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.0 runs over those games. As for Lawson, their record now sits at 7-8.
Lawson's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Overton has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11 hits per game. It's a different story for Lawson, though, as they've been averaging 11.3 hits. Given Overton's sizable advantage in that area, the Lightning will need to find a way to close that gap.
Overton beat Lawson 10-6 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bobcats since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
