Softball Recap: Calvert Picks Up Sixth Consecutive Win

Calvert entered their tilt with South Central on Saturday with five consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with six. They never let the Trojans get on the board and left with an 18-0 win. While the Senecas didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-18), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Ava Eilrich made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over 4.2 innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while going 1-for-3. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game.

In other batting news, Gracie Miller was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three stolen bases, and six RBI. Another player making a difference was Addison King, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs.

Calvert's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for South Central, they are on a nine-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Calvert will head out to square off against New Riegel at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Senecas 1.9, the Blue Jackets 1.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for South Central, they are taking a road trip to challenge Crestview at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Trojans will need to watch out since the Cougars have now posted at least ten runs in their last three contests.
