The Salmon Savages are taking a road trip to challenge the Challis Vikings at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Salmon is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
Salmon's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed last Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 20-0 margin over West Jefferson. Considering the Savages have won 11 games by more than eight runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Dane Piippo made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one hit in six consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2025.
In other pitching news, Clayton Allen looked comfortable as he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Thomas Baumer, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases, four runs, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2025. Wyatt Pilkerton was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Salmon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .581. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .323 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, the third road matchup was the charm for Challis, as they earned their first away win of the season. They walked away with a 9-6 victory over North Fremont on Saturday.
Roy Jones and Carter Ivie did most of the damage at the plate: Jones went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Ivie went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs. Another player making a difference was Gunnar Shodin, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Salmon's record now sits at 12-0. As for Challis, their win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 3-5.
Challis' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Salmon has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .598. It's a different story for Challis, though, as they've only averaged .313. Will they be able to contain Salmon's hitters?
Everything went Salmon's way against Challis in their previous meeting two weeks ago, as Salmon made off with a 34-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Savages since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
