Softball Recap: Atkins Triumphs

Atkins's game on Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. They came out on top against the Western Guilford Fighting Hornets by a score of 17-2 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). Considering the Camels' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Emma Davis made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March of 2025. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two RBI.

In other batting news, Ava Fleming was incredible, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Alejandra Scruggs was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and two RBI.

Atkins always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .645. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Western Guilford only posted an OBP of .286.

The win got Atkins back to even at 3-3. As for Western Guilford, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-7.

Coming up, Atkins will square off against North Davidson at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Black Knights' pitching crew has only allowed 2.3 runs per game this season, so the Camels' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Western Guilford, they will take on Page at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Pirates have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.14 runs per game on average), something the Fighting Hornets will no doubt try to take advantage of.
