The Atkins Camels will head out to square off against the Leadership Academy Falcons at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Atkins is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
Atkins took a loss when they played away from home last Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 16-1 margin over Carver. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Camels considering their two-run performance the game before.
Emma Davis made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Davis was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Olivia Haas was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (three). Ava Fleming was another key player, scoring three runs while going 3-for-3.
Atkins always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .769. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
The home team had won the previous four meetings between Leadership Academy and Cornerstone Charter, and Leadership Academy kept the tradition alive. The Falcons walked away with a 9-5 victory over the Cardinals on Wednesday.
Emory Maxwell was a standout: she scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-4. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Hopkins, who scored two runs while going 3-for-3.
Atkins moved to 5-10 with that win, which also ended their four-game losing streak. As for Leadership Academy, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.
Wednesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Atkins has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .446. However, it's not like Leadership Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .519. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Atkins might still be hurting after the 12-2 loss they got from Leadership Academy when the teams last played back in March. Can the Camels avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
