Newport has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will challenge the Line Mountain Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Newport focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Monday.
Newport suffered their biggest defeat since December 30, 2023 on Monday. Their rough 57-32 loss to East Juniata might stick with them for a while. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Newport in their matchups with East Juniata: they've now lost five in a row.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Landon Zaring, who scored five points along with eight rebounds. He hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyler Gardner, who scored 11 points.
Meanwhile, Line Mountain entered their tilt with Upper Dauphin Area with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Line Mountain claimed a resounding 76-45 win over Upper Dauphin Area at home. Line Mountain's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Newport has not been sharp recently, as they've lost 13 of their last 14 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-16 record this season. As for Line Mountain, the win got them back to even at 7-7.
Everything came up roses for Newport against Line Mountain in their previous matchup back in January of 2023 as the team secured a 56-25 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Newport since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
