The Choctaw Central Warriors waltzed into their game on Friday with eight straight wins but they left with nine. They put the hurt on Bay Springs with a sharp 80-58 win. Given Choctaw Central's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked eighth, while the Bulldogs are ranked 62nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Choctaw Central got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Clemons Zylier out in front who scored 20 points. Another player making a difference was Jayce Sam, who scored 18 points.
Choctaw Central is on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 16 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 19-5 record this season. As for Bay Springs, their loss dropped their record down to 15-6.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Choctaw Central won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Gators at 7:30 p.m. on January 27th. Leake Central is no doubt hoping to put an end to a seven-game streak of away losses. As for Bay Springs, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Rebels at 7:30 p.m.
