Corinth Holders is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They blew past Fuquay - Varina 8-1. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last seven times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Elizabeth McKenzie spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ava Marks, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Mia Gwynn, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Wake Forest waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with five straight wins... but they left with six. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Catamounts a 9-0 shutout.
Jil Livengood was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 17 over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Kaylee Bowers was excellent, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Mia Spahlinger, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Wake Forest kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in four consecutive matches.
Corinth Holders has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Wake Forest, they pushed their record up to 18-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Corinth Holders hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .322. However, it's not like Wake Forest struggles in that department as they've averaged .323. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
