Basketball Recap: Goldsboro Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against J.H. Rose, Goldsboro was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They blew past the Southern Wayne Saints 66-43. The contest marked the Cougars' most dominant win of the season so far.

Goldsboro's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Maurice Tyler led the charge by going 5 of 12 en route to 13 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Tyler has been hot recently, having also posted two or more blocks the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Anoncezo Fields, who posted nine points and five steals.

Despite the loss, Southern Wayne saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Demetrius Elliot went 8 of 11 on his way to 20 points. Jacobe Graham was another key player, putting up nine points.

Goldsboro moved to 3-5 with that victory, which also ended their five-game losing streak. As for Southern Wayne, they are on a four-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Goldsboro didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 57-49 win against North Pitt on the 9th. As for Southern Wayne, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 69-63 victory against James Kenan on the 10th.
