Softball Recap: Grand Island Now 6-2 over Last Eight Games

Grand Island got themselves on the board against Niagara Falls on Friday, but Niagara Falls never followed suit. They blew past the Wolverines 9-0. Considering the Vikings have won six matchups by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

The result came thanks to Natalie Kopf's shutout, as she gave up just three hits and racked up seven Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Addy Lewis, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Bella Jayme, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Grand Island kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are 7-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Grand Island has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Niagara Falls, the defeat snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 6-2 record.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Grand Island will challenge rival Lockport at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, Niagara Falls is set to take on their familiar foe North Tonawanda at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Wolverines 3, the Lumberjacks 1.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.
