Basketball Recap: Desoto Sets Scoring Season-High Against West Memphis Christian

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask DeSoto). They simply couldn't be stopped on Tuesday as they easily beat the West Memphis Christian Black Knights 77-42. The Thunderbirds have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine contests by 21 points or more this season.

Carsyn Gore was her usual excellent self, putting up 22 points in addition to eight assists and six steals. She has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kylee Jo Holder, who posted ten points and five steals.

DeSoto smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in nine consecutive games.

DeSoto's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-2. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.7 points per game. As for West Memphis Christian, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. DeSoto will host Tunica Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. DeSoto's defense has only allowed 26.9 points per game this season, so Tunica Academy's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for West Memphis Christian, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Rossville Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on January 16, 2025.
