Whitwell is a perfect 5-0 against Signal Mountain since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Tigers will host the Eagles at 5:00 p.m. The timing is sure in Whitwell's favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while Signal Mountain has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.
Whitwell will bounce into Tuesday's game after beating Sequatchie County, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Tigers were the clear victors by a 7-1 margin over the Indians on Monday. Considering the Tigers have won five matches by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Jasie Willis was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Ella Grace Harvey was incredible, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and two runs. Kasie Britton was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI.
Meanwhile, Signal Mountain can bid farewell to their eight-game losing streak thanks to their game on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Bradley Central 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Eagles have posted since April 26, 2024.
The team relied heavily on Berkley Roddy, who went 1-for-4 with one home run. The team also got some help courtesy of Carly Stone, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Whitwell is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Signal Mountain, their win bumped their record up to 5-15.
Signal Mountain's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Whitwell has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.9 hits per game. It's a different story for Signal Mountain, though, as they've been averaging 9.3 hits. Given Whitwell's sizable advantage in that area, the Eagles will need to find a way to close that gap.
Whitwell took their victory against Signal Mountain in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 16-0 score. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
