The Lansing Catholic Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the Ovid-Elsie Marauders at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
After only six points in their last match, Lansing Catholic made sure to put some points up on the board against Michigan Center on Friday. Lansing Catholic pulled ahead with a 35-34 photo finish over Michigan Center. The win was some much needed relief for Lansing Catholic as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Alex Fernandez got back to being his usual excellent self, as he rushed for 177 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 184 yards and three touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes. Joseph Gulock did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 91 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Ovid-Elsie entered their tilt with Ida with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Ovid-Elsie came out on top against Ida by a score of 14-3 on Friday. The score was all tied up 0-0 at the break, but Ovid-Elsie was the (much) better team in the second half.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Ovid-Elsie to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tryce Tokar, who rushed for 96 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 88 yards and a touchdown.
Lansing Catholic's victory bumped their record up to 4-6. As for Ovid-Elsie, their win bumped their record up to 6-4.
Everything went Lansing Catholic's way against Ovid-Elsie in their previous meeting back in November of 2022 as Lansing Catholic made off with a 20-0 victory. Does Lansing Catholic have another victory up their sleeve, or will Ovid-Elsie turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
