Baseball Recap: Camp Verde Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Camp Verde's game last Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. They came out on top against the Madison Highland Prep Heat by a score of 6-2. The victory was some much needed relief for the Cowboys as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.

Deegan Rodriquez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits (and not a single walk). He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Camp Verde is 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 0-7 otherwise. Rodriquez was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

In other batting news, Gage Wolf was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Gunner Selting was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Camp Verde's record now sits at 2-8. As for Madison Highland Prep, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Camp Verde will face off against Scottsdale Preparatory Academy at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Scottsdale Preparatory Academy's pitching crew has only allowed 2.3 runs per game this season, so Camp Verde's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Madison Highland Prep, they will take on Phoenix Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Madison Highland Prep's pitchers better be ready for this one: Phoenix Christian has averaged an impressive 11 runs per game this season.
