The Maryvale Panthers were the 31-27 winner over the Camelback Spartans when they last played one another last Tuesday, but their luck changed this time around. Maryvale took a 41-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of Camelback.
Maryvale's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Marianna Jennings, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. Jennings hasn't dropped below ten rebounds for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylorrae Martinez, who scored no points along with six assists and five steals.
Even though they lost, Maryvale smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Camelback only pulled down 14 offensive rebounds.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Camelback to victory, but perhaps none more so than Mya Crump, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. Crump is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Jada Rosado, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds and five blocks.
Maryvale's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 6-16. As for Camelback, their win bumped their record up to 5-16.
Maryvale does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Camelback, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Carl Hayden Community at 7:00 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Arizona (Camelback is ranked 264th, while Carl Hayden Community is ranked 282nd).
