Basketball Game Preview: Greenville Hornets vs. Gentry Rams

Greenville is on a four-game streak of home losses, Gentry a five-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck will change on Tuesday. The Greenville Hornets will host the Gentry Rams at 7:00 p.m. Greenville is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55 points per game this season.

Having struggled with nine losses in a row, Greenville turned things around against Cleveland Central on Friday. They secured a 40-35 W over the Wolves. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Hornets' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 94th, while the Wolves are ranked 34th).

Greenville can attribute much of their success to Marcus Peoples, who posted eight points in addition to nine blocks and six rebounds, and Lucas Johnson, who put up 12 points. The dominant performance gave Johnson a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was A'Tavius McChristion, who had six points along with seven boards and four steals.

Greenville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in six consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 62-35, which was the final score in Gentry's tilt against Holmes County Central on Friday.

Gentry's defeat dropped their record down to 4-16. As for Greenville, their win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-7 and their overall record up to 11-11.
