Jonesboro is 0-3 against Lovejoy since October of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Jonesboro Cardinals will be playing at home against the Lovejoy Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Saturday, Jonesboro narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Alcovy 28-26. The win was just what Jonesboro needed coming off of a 29-6 defeat in their prior game.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Jonesboro to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jamon Jones, who threw for 326 yards and two touchdowns while completing 81.8% of his passes. The team also got some help courtesy of Donovan Mccoy, who rushed for 101 yards and a touchdown on only six carries.
Meanwhile, Lovejoy put the finishing touches on their fifth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They took their game at home with ease, bagging a 55-0 victory over Forest Park. The win was nothing new for Lovejoy as they're now sitting on three straight.
Jonesboro's win was their third straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 6-3. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 30.7 points per game. As for Lovejoy, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season.
Jonesboro might still be hurting after the 42-18 defeat they got from Lovejoy in their previous meeting back in November of 2022. Thankfully for Jonesboro, Trevon Kinchen (who rushed for 335 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 12.4 yards per carry) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
