It was a proper cat-fight when Mountain Heritage challenged Rosman on Friday. Mountain Heritage blew past Rosman 64-21. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 83rd, while the Tigers are ranked 459th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Mountain Heritage's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lilly Neill, who posted eight points in addition to eight rebounds and five assists. Neill has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last eight times she's played. Mallie Mae Buchanan was another key player, putting up 12 points and three steals.
Mountain Heritage smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in 15 consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Owen was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were beaten by Mitchell 65-27.
Mountain Heritage will need focus on slowing down Savannah Hollingsworth, one of several Owen players who made an impact when they last played. She earned 13 points and five boards. Those 13 points gave Hollingsworth a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Mia Roland, who scored two points along with 12 rebounds and four steals.
Owen's loss dropped their record down to 2-15. As for Mountain Heritage, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-3 record this season.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Mountain Heritage hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 57.6 points per game. It's a different story for Owen, though, as they've been averaging only 25.3 points. The only thing between Mountain Heritage and another offensive beatdown is Owen.
