The Breckenridge Huskies will challenge the Ovid-Elsie Marauders at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Breckenridge will be strutting in after a win while Ovid-Elsie will be coming in after a defeat.
While Breckenridge's victory against St. Charles wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Huskies skirted past the Bulldogs 10-9. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Huskies have posted since April 19, 2024.
Adyson Collins was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and eight unearned) runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Emma Tinson was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since April 4th. Lydia Slavik was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs and one double.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 18 runs the game before, Ovid-Elsie was a bit more limited in their contest on Monday. They came up short against Birch Run, falling 16-1.
Ovid-Elsie saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Haley McClung, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one run. That triple marked the first that McClung has hit this season.
The victory got Breckenridge back to even at 6-6. As for Ovid-Elsie, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season.
Everything went Breckenridge's way against Ovid-Elsie when the teams last played back in May of 2019, as Breckenridge made off with a 14-4 win. Do the Huskies have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Marauders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
