The Odem Owls's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their 19th straight defeat. They had to suffer through a rough 49-21 loss at the hands of Mathis. Odem was down 40-11 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Despite the defeat, Odem saw an underclassman step up: Harper Dredla scored 12 points along with four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Dredla has scored all season.
Kailey Garcia was a one-man wrecking crew for Mathis as she dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Mia Adames, who scored nine points along with three steals.
Odem's loss was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-30. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 17.3 points per game. As for Mathis, their win ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-23.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Odem will take on the Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Goliad and the Owls are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads. As for Mathis, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Longhorns at 7:30 p.m. George West will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
