The Boonsboro Warriors will head out on the road to face off against the Frederick Cadets at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Boonsboro is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
Boonsboro is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Maryland's top teams: Catoctin, who was ranked 12th at the time (Boonsboro was ranked 13th). The Warriors' pitcher stepped up to hand the Cougars a 4-0 shutout on Monday. Give the Warriors' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's sixth straight shutout.
Addison Tyler made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Mackenzie Cullen was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. She also scored a run, marking her first of the season. Kalyn Lawrence was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one run.
Boonsboro kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Catoctin only managed five.
Meanwhile, Frederick hadn't done well against Governor Thomas Johnson recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Cadets sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-8 win over the Patriots. The Cadets' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Frederick got a big performance out of Nia Fields, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Nyasia Morten-Powell, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and one double.
Frederick's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-10. As for Boonsboro, their record now sits at 9-0.
Frederick's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Boonsboro hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .464. It's a different story for Frederick, though, as they've only averaged .148. Will they be able to contain Boonsboro's hitters?
