Marsing is preparing for their first conference matchup of the season on Tuesday. They will square off against the Parma Panthers at 5:30 p.m. The last three games Marsing has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Marsing is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another highly-ranked state team: Vale, who was ranked 23rd in their home state at the time (Marsing was ranked 18th). Marsing fell just short of Vale by a score of 7-6 on Monday. That's two games in a row now that the Huskies have lost by just one run.
Luke Steinmeyer made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole three bases while going 1-for-3. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in May of 2024. Jace Chadez was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Parma had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 victory over Horizon Christian last Saturday.
Samuel Hultman made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over 4.2 innings while giving up four earned runs off five hits (and not a single walk). He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Parma is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 1-4 otherwise. Hultman was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ethan Obenchain, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Kaydn Brenneck also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
The win got Parma back to even at 4-4. As for Marsing, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 4-3.
Parma's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Marsing hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .330. It's a different story for Parma, though, as they've only averaged .237. Will they be able to contain Marsing's hitters?
Marsing beat Parma 4-0 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Does Marsing have another victory up their sleeve, or will Parma turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
