After flying high against the Hurricane Redskins last Thursday, the Winfield Generals came back down to earth. Winfield took a 44-35 hit to the loss column at the hands of Sissonville on Tuesday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Winfield of the 61-57 defeat they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2022.
Winfield's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brooklyn Cole, who scored three points along with five rebounds and four steals. Another player making a difference was Kaitlyn Sayre, who scored seven points along with two steals.
Kynadee Britton continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Sissonville, scoring 25 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. That makes it six consecutive games in which Britton has scored at least a third of Sissonville's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Hillabold, who scored four points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Winfield has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-7 record this season. As for Sissonville, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Winfield will square off against Ripley at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in West Virginia (Ripley is ranked 20th, while Winfield is ranked 27th). As for Sissonville, they will head out on the road to square off against Chapmanville Regional at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Chapmanville Regional will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
