The Central Cabarrus Vikings will head out on the road to take on the West Rowan Falcons at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Central Cabarrus will be coming into the matchup with an undefeated record on the line.
Central Cabarrus put the finishing touches on their 19th blowout victory of the season on Tuesday. They claimed a resounding 96-58 victory over Northwest Cabarrus on the road. Given Central Cabarrus' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 12th, while the Trojans are ranked 178th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Central Cabarrus' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Josh Dalton led the charge by almost dropping a triple-double on 17 points, 12 rebounds, and nine assists. It was the first time this season that Dalton posted eight or more assists. Another player making a difference was Desmond Kent Jr., who scored 21 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, West Rowan unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Friday. They fell 70-57 to Concord. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Central Cabarrus pushed their record up to 20-0 with that win, which was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season. They've been dominating during the contests in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 42.2 points. As for West Rowan, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-8.
Everything came up roses for Central Cabarrus against the Falcons in their previous matchup back in January as the team secured a 85-47 victory. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was West Rowan's Will Givens Jr., who scored 21 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Central Cabarrus still be able to contain Givens Jr.? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
