Christiansburg hasn't had much luck against Blacksburg recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Blue Demons will be playing in front of their home fans against the Bruins at 7:00 p.m. Christiansburg is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.
Christiansburg took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Pulaski County 9-7. The victory continues a trend for the Blue Demons in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now won eight in a row.
Aubrey Davis made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tyleigh Dillard, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Reagan Smith, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, Blacksburg was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 13-1 to Salem, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.
Madelyn Williams was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run.
Christiansburg pushed their record up to 7-4 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of six runs across that stretch. As for Blacksburg, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-7.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Christiansburg hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Blacksburg struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.7 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Everything went Christiansburg's way against Blacksburg in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Christiansburg made off with a 10-0 victory. Will the Blue Demons repeat their success, or do the Bruins have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
