The Atlanta Rabbits will challenge the De Kalb Bears at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Atlanta is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.
Atlanta easily dispatched Linden-Kildare on Saturday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. Atlanta fell just short of Redwater by a score of 6-4 on Tuesday. The Rabbits' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Gabby Arredondo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned runs on seven hits.
At the plate, Carlajah Adger was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as she's now launched at least one in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Anna Davis, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask De Kalb). Everything went their way against Liberty-Eylau on Monday as De Kalb made off with a 23-1 victory. Considering the Bears have won nine matches by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Kaydee Brown made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Brown was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Addison Starrett, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with seven RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those seven RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kaitlin Parks, who scored three runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
De Kalb always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .784. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
The win (which was De Kalb's fourth in a row) raised their record to 14-3. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Atlanta, their loss dropped their record down to 11-4-1.
Friday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Atlanta has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .477. However, it's not like De Kalb struggles in that department as they've averaged .481. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Atlanta skirted past De Kalb 7-6 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Will Atlanta repeat their success, or does De Kalb have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
