Northeastern Buckeye recap November 5, 2013
Marlington moved up to 111 from 141 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Northeastern Buckeye. The Dukes climbed the ranks as a result of defeating Alliance 38-7.
Adding to the longest winning streak in the league this week, Louisville beat Canton South 42-21. The win marks 10th in a row for the the Leopards.
Josh Lyon threw for 188 yards and 2 touchdowns. He was 16-29 with 1 interception.
Connor Zwick was a passing and rushing force as Louisville topped the Wildcats. He completed 8 passes for 145 yards and 1 touchdown and also ran for 63 yards. Zwick's favorite target this week was Bryce Mathie, who caught 2 passes for 51 yards.
Danny Davis made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Aviators fell to Marlington. The 6-foot-0 senior grabbed 1 sack.
Lyon put up the best numbers in passing as Canton South lost to John Demarco's team. Lyon's favorite target this week was DJ Wilson, who caught 6 passes for 58 yards.
Alliance's Kordelle Phillips and Ryan Bevington led the league in both passing and receiving yards. 5-8 quarterback Phillips has thrown for 1,913 yards this season, while Bevington has 37 catches for 692 yards. The Leopards' Zwick leads the league in rushing yards with 763.
Minerva was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to third in Northeastern Buckeye. The Lions beat Carrollton 14-10 earlier in the week.
