Wagner is 8-2 against Boerne-Champion since January of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Wagner Thunderbirds will face off against the Boerne-Champion Chargers at 6:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Wagner has six straight victories, Boerne-Champion has five straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.
Last Tuesday, Wagner didn't have too much trouble with Smithson Valley as they won 80-64. Given the Thunderbirds' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 28th, while the Rangers are ranked 297th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Wagner to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jordan Thomas, who went 7 of 10 en route to 19 points and five assists. Another player making a difference was Marcus Johnson, who went 7 for 10 on his way to 19 points.
Thomas wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Wagner was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2024.
Meanwhile, Boerne-Champion came up short against New Braunfels on Tuesday and fell 66-59.
Wagner will have to contain Logan Scott as he made an impact in Boerne-Champion's last game. He went 10 of 16 en route to 23 points. The dominant performance gave Scott a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin Peck, who posted 17 points.
Boerne-Champion's defeat dropped their record down to 21-10. As for Wagner, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 23-7 record this season.
Friday's contest will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Daimen Ramirez and Peck. Ramirez has been dynamite this season: he has averaged 11.5 points, 4.7 boards, and 3 assists. For his part, Peck has averaged 13.1 points, 1.3 steals, and 3.1 assists.
Wagner strolled past Boerne-Champion when the teams last played back in December of 2024 by a score of 72-56. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Boerne-Champion's Baeden Burdick, who went 8 for 18 on his way to 27 points. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Wagner still be able to contain Burdick? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
