Even though The South Mecklenburg Sabres scored an imposing 31 points on Friday, the Myers Park Mustangs still came out on top. Myers Park slipped by South Mecklenburg 32-31. Given Myers Park's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 26th, while South Mecklenburg is ranked 139th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
RJ Alexander was the offensive standout of the matchup as he rushed for 168 yards and a touchdown while picking up 10.5 yards per carry, and also caught a touchdown. Those 168 rushing yards set a new season-high mark for Alexander. Another player making a difference was Wendell Thompson, who threw for 150 yards and three touchdowns.
The win makes it two in a row for Myers Park and bumps their season record up to 7-3. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 45.5 points per game. As for South Mecklenburg, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-7.
Myers Park does not have any more games scheduled as of now. South Mecklenburg also has no future games currently scheduled.
