Basketball Recap: Gavin Gold's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Front Range Christian over Flatirons Academy

After flying high against Gilpin County last Tuesday, Front Range Christian came back down to earth. The Front Range Christian Falcons took a hard 73-59 fall against the Flatirons Academy Bison on Thursday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Falcons of the 47-46 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2021.

Front Range Christian lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Gavin Gold, who dropped a double-double with 18 points and ten boards. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Zach Woo, who went 6-for-14 on his way to 15 points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Front Range Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in seven consecutive games.

Flatirons Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Brandon Ewing, who went 7-for-15 to rack up 16 points along with seven boards and six assists. Those six assists gave Ewing a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Schulz, who went 6-for-7 en route to 17 points and seven rebounds.

Front Range Christian has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-12 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.8 points over those games. Flatirons Academy is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season.

Front Range Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Flatirons Academy, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, an 86-13 victory against Kiowa on the 22nd.
