On Saturday, The Farmington Scorpions faced the Eldorado Golden Eagles in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Farmington fell to Eldorado 44-40. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
Despite the loss, Farmington still got an impressive performance from Griego Trel, who rushed for 114 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.1 yards per carry, and also threw for 224 yards and a touchdown. Trel is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last three games he's played. Serrano Alex also deserves a mention for his punt return touchdown.
Brandon Olivas got back to being his usual excellent self, as he threw for 336 yards and five touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Jahari Morehead, who picked up 83 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Farmington has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-4 record this season. As for Eldorado, their victory bumped their record up to 4-5.
Farmington will look to defend their home field on Friday against La Cueva at 7:00 p.m. La Cueva is coming into the game hot, having won their last six games. As for Eldorado, they will head out on the road to face off against West Mesa at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in New Mexico (West Mesa is ranked 18th, while Eldorado is ranked 16th).
