Wiggins and Sedgwick County are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2019, but not for long. The Wiggins Tigers will head out on the road to take on the Sedgwick County Cougars at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Wiggins will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 110th, while Sedgwick County is ranked 30th).
Last Saturday, Wiggins earned a 51-39 victory over Heritage Christian.
Riley Hunt was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 20 points and 12 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Kennedy Kerr was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with six steals.
Meanwhile, Sedgwick County waltzed into their match on Thursday with four straight wins but they left with five. They walked away with a 62-50 victory over Perkins County. Sedgwick County's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Wiggins pushed their record up to 5-6 with that win, which was their third straight on the road. Sedgwick County's record now sits at 10-1.
Wiggins lost to Sedgwick County on the road by a decisive 53-37 margin in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Sedgwick County's Lainee Nein, who scored 16 points along with nine rebounds and three steals. Now that Wiggins knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
