Baseball Recap: Make It Nine in a Row for Navajo Prep

Navajo Prep entered their tilt with Zuni on Tuesday with eight consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with nine. They walked away with an 11-8 win over the Thunderbirds. 11 seems to be a good number for the Eagles as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Khol Johnson was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and three unearned) runs off 12 hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Navajo Prep's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 8-3 (and 3-10 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Navajo Prep let Jashyro Bileen and Dontayus Tsosie run wild. Bileen went 4-for-5 with one home run, four stolen bases, and three runs, while Tsosie went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most hits Bileen has posted since back in March. Koltyn Holyan was another key player, going 2-for-5 with three stolen bases and two runs.

Navajo Prep kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in ten consecutive games.

Navajo Prep's win was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-13. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.1 runs over those games. As for Zuni, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-13.

Navajo Prep has already played their next matchup, an 11-1 win against Thoreau on the 1st. Zuni does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
