On Tuesday, the Lincoln Lions faced the Lincoln School Lynx in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Lincoln ended up on the wrong side of a tough 71-47 walloping at the hands of Lincoln School. Lincoln was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Lincoln School apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January.
Despite the loss, Lincoln had strong showings from Lauren Cipriano, who scored 23 points along with five steals, and Tayla Valentin, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds and four steals. That was a full 48.9% of Lincoln's points, marking the 12th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Brielle Lambert, who scored eight points along with three steals.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Lincoln School to victory, but perhaps none more so than Sarah Berube, who scored 24 points along with six assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Reign Whiteing, who scored 23 points along with six rebounds and three blocks.
Lincoln's loss dropped their record down to 11-8. As for Lincoln School, the win got them back to even at 7-7.
Lincoln will be playing at home against Exeter-West Greenwich at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Rhode Island (Exeter-West Greenwich is ranked sixth, while Lincoln is ranked 16th). As for Lincoln School, they will head out on the road to take on Middletown at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Lincoln School is facing Middletown at the right time seeing as Middletown is stuck on a 15-game losing streak.
