The Solvay Bearcats will face off against the Chittenango Bears at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
Tuesday just wasn't the day for Solvay's offense. They came up short against LaSalle-Peru last Tuesday, falling 12-0. Having soared to a lofty 15 runs in the game before, the Bearcats' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Meanwhile, Chittenango waltzed into their game on Tuesday with five straight wins... but they left with six. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Firebirds a 23-0 shutout. Considering the Bears have won four matchups by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Lauren Machan made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Izzy McClusky was incredible, going 4-for-5 with six RBI, four runs, and one double. Juli. Coon was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
Chittenango always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.
Chittenango pushed their record up to 6-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Solvay, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.
Solvay might still be hurting after the 16-0 loss they got from Chittenango in their previous meeting back in April of 2023. Can the Bearcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
