Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for the Roma Gladiators, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They were beaten by Gregory-Portland 55-17 on Friday. Roma has been going strong on the season, but this is now their second loss in a row.
Gregory-Portland's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Gabriel Juarez led the charge by rushing for 172 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries. Juarez was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 65 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Reed Dooms, who threw for 217 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 passes.
Roma's loss dropped their record down to 9-2. As for Gregory-Portland, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season.
Roma does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Gregory-Portland is on the road again on Friday and play against Alamo Heights. Alamo Heights is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
