The Canutillo Eagles will head out to take on the Burges Mustangs at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Canutillo will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
Fans were treated to a battle of the Eagles on Friday. Everything went Canutillo's way against Andress as they made off with an 11-3 win. The result was nothing new for Canutillo, who have now won six contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Emilio Melendez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2025. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one run.
In other pitching news, Julian Esparza looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Canutillo is 6-2 when Esparza allows two or fewer earned runs, but 4-6-1 otherwise.

Paul Zuniga
| 03/20/26 vs Andress | 4 |
| 04/02/25 vs Jefferson | 3 |
| 03/08/25 vs Hanks | 3 |
| 02/27/26 vs Mountain View | 2 |
| 03/28/25 @ Chapin | 2 |
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Paul Zuniga, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, one triple, and one double. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Diego Acosta also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Burges). They were the clear victors by a 20-2 margin over Jefferson on Friday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Mustangs with their most commanding win of the season.
Like Canutillo, Burges also got a great game from a two-way player: Victor Aguirre. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over six innings pitched. Aguirre has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
In other batting news, Burges got a massive performance out of Evan Ortiz, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Emmanuel Chavez, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Burges always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .578. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Canutillo's record is now 10-8-1. As for Burges, they picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 6-10-2.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Canutillo has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .445. However, it's not like Burges struggles in that department as they've averaged .435. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Canutillo got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in April of 2025 against Burges by a conclusive 7-1 score. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mustangs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
