The First Coast Buccaneers will face off against the Nease Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. First Coast is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.
First Coast was handed a nine-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Fletcher 3-1.
Kyler Long tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over 5.1 innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Cam Allen was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that he has brought in this season.
Meanwhile, Nease was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss dating back to last season. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 9-7 heartbreaker at the hands of St. Augustine. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Panthers have suffered against the Yellow Jackets since April 17, 2019.
Caeden Dye was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out ten batters over 5.1 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits.
At the plate, Damian Smith made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three runs and one double. Another player making a difference was Braylon Morgan, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two doubles.
First Coast pushed their record up to 3-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Nease, their loss dropped their record down to 0-3.
Nease's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: First Coast has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .436. It's a different story for Nease, though, as they've only averaged .330. Will they be able to contain First Coast's hitters?
First Coast came up short against Nease in their previous matchup back in March of 2025, falling 4-0. Can the Buccaneers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
