The Mt. Pleasant Tigers will be home for the holidays to greet the Hughes Lions at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Thursday, Mt. Pleasant was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 52-51 to Giles County. While losing is never fun, Mt. Pleasant can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 239th, while Giles County is ranked 119th).
Despite their loss, Mt. Pleasant saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Jakyri McClure, who scored 19 points along with five rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayden Holt, who scored eight points along with five steals.
Mt. Pleasant struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Hughes came up short against Santa Fe on Monday and fell 57-48.
Mt. Pleasant's loss was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 5-3. As for Hughes, their loss dropped their record down to 6-3.
Mt. Pleasant took a serious blow against Hughes in their previous matchup back in November of 2017, falling 74-46. Can Mt. Pleasant avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
