Durango hasn't had much luck against Fruita Monument recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Demons will head out on the road to challenge the Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. Durango is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
Durango was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Bayfield on Tuesday. The Demons blew past the Wolverines 8-2. The win continues a trend for the Demons in their matchups with the Wolverines: they've now won four in a row.
Jack Englund looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Durango let Ethan White and Dylan Burns run wild. White went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Burns went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. White has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ollie Peterson, who went 1-for-2 with two runs.
Durango was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .381. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bayfield only posted a batting average of .182.
Meanwhile, Fruita Monument suffered their closest defeat since March 8th on Wednesday. They fell just short of Regis Jesuit by a score of 6-4.
Noah Brackett put in work while hitting and pitching. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has become a key player for Fruita Monument: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 5-7 otherwise. Brackett was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run.
Brackett wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jimmy Hawkins, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Fruita Monument's loss ended a ten-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 7-8. As for Durango, their record now sits at 11-4.
Durango came up short against Fruita Monument in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, falling 7-4. Can the Demons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
