After flying high against the Forbush Falcons last Tuesday, the Wilkes Central Eagles came back down to earth. Wilkes Central took a 38-29 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Greyhounds on Friday. Wilkes Central has not had much luck with the Greyhounds recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.
Wilkes Central's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tyson Owens, who scored eight points along with 12 rebounds and two blocks. Owens is crushing the rebound category: he's posted at least nine every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Jermaine Ferguson, who scored four points along with six assists and four steals.
Leading North Surry to victory were Fisher Leftwich and Anthony Williams. Leftwich almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds, while Williams dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds. Williams also posted two blocks for the first time this season.
Wilkes Central's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 12-7. As for North Surry, the victory (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 13-4.
Wilkes Central will be playing at home against the Golden Eagles at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Surry Central presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Eagles in North Carolina (the Golden Eagles are ranked 158th, while the Eagles are ranked 326th). As for North Surry, they will head out on the road to challenge the Cardinals at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. East Surry has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 459 points over their last seven contests.
